About one-fourth of India reels in hunger and lack of nutrition – marginalised sections of society like the homeless, destitute, abandoned seniors, and orphaned children. We believe that a sound mind dwells in a healthy and nourished body, and it is impossible with this widespread deprivation. Widows, runaway or castaway girls, women from abusive households, and those in poor and destitute conditions struggle to feed themselves and their young ones. Stitching classes, computer education, financial literacy, public speaking, driving, etc., get them job-ready for the future workforce and help in closing the gender inequality gap. Over the past two years, we have conducted tens of “Annadaanam” events, feeding hundreds of needy people, and plenty more to come. Under our back-to-school drive for underprivileged kids, we have spent around INR 50,000 on book and bag distribution, fee expenses, and mid-day meals.
Aashritha Old Age Home often conducts celebrations, birthdays, festivals, signing, park visits, and more for the social engagements of elders and their emotional well-being. We have facilitated network events and free job courses for widows and women in BPL families to stabilise their economic condition.
